What we’re here for
Ecological change is not always visible. We’re interested in what becomes noticeable when we spend more time listening.
Terranova brings together questions from ecology, sound, and field observation. The aim is to develop ways of documenting a place without reducing it to a single recording or a single number.
A useful archive holds more than sound. It holds the conditions of the recording, the choices of the person who made it, and the limits of what anyone can conclude from it.
How we work
Observation first
Make time for repeated visits. Pay attention before deciding what a signal means.
Methods in the open
Document equipment, settings, and decisions so another listener can follow the work.
Care for the place
Respect access, disturbance, and the people responsible for a site. Withhold location details when sharing them could cause harm.
Room for uncertainty
Keep observations separate from interpretations. A pattern is a question to investigate, not a conclusion on its own.
Take part
You might work with sound, care for a landscape, build instruments, or simply notice something worth returning to. A specific question is a good place to start.
